117 applications for BioUpper fourth edition

Launched on the 16th of October 2019 and aimed at aspiring entrepreneurs, researchers and digital startuppers in the area of ​​digital health for the Life Sciences sector, BioUpper’s Call For Startup holds 117 candidatures for the fourth edition.

Startups joined the initiative, with 71% of the candidates, followed by aspiring entrepreneurs, 21%, and by the spin-offs, the tail lamp with only 8%. The geographical distribution shows a positive response from Northern Italy: 52% of the projects presented; followed by 19% from Central Italy and 15% from the South and the Islands. In addition, this year the fourth edition of BioUpper was a pole of attraction and visibility beyond national borders, a figure confirmed by 14% of foreign applications.

Analyzing the technological level of the applicants, an interesting cross-section emerges that sees at the top of the ranking the candidates with a Technology Readiness Level between 6 and 5; in addition, 51% of the applications received is covered by a patent, a significant figure which confirms the high degree of evolution of the initiatives presented.

The entrepreneurial proposals of the candidates for the fourth edition of BioUpper respond to all the areas of interest of the initiative and are attributable to the therapeutic areas in which Novartis has been the industry leader for years.

From the use of technology to improve patient experience and diagnosis in multiple therapeutic areas – including oncology, respiratory and cardio-renal-metabolic; to the proposal of innovative solutions that guarantee the sustainability of the Health system Italian and ensure that costs are met.

 

 

The applications collected will be analyzed by the BioUpper Evaluation Committee, which will identify up to a maximum of 20 projects that will take part in the Selection Days on the 4th and 6th of March in Cariplo Factory. On the occasion of the institutional days, the BioUpper Jury will identify the best final projects, up to a maximum of 10, which will access the entrepreneurial, personalized and modular accompanying program. It will consist of lessons and workshops, interspersed with sessions of design and review with industry experts from Novartis, IBM and Cariplo Factory.
